Halloween (1978)
Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, HALLOWEEN takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his hometown to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night. Produced for very little money and a tight shooting schedule, HALLOWEEN was a stunning success when it was released. Written by John Carpenter and his longtime producer Debra Hill, the film set their careers on fire, with both of them working together many times over the next 25 years. The film also made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis and turned the slasher movie into a viable, successful genre. HALLOWEEN has been copied, parodied and even turned into a franchise of its own, but the original is still considered the best of the bunch. HALLOWEEN was John Carpenter’s first foray into horror, and remains the standard to which all other modern horror films are measured.

First off, This is by far one of the best Horror movies to date, and true horror fans will agree.. The start of the movie might seem alittle slow for some, but soon you will be rewarded with an outburst of Manslaughter and Mayhem.. Donald Pleasance as Dr. Loomis was perfect. A Must have for fans, Halloween will not disappoint. If you like your blood,sex and violence, then this movie is right up your alley…

Halloween will forever live in the minds of it's generation and many more to come as the ultimate slasher film. This movie is the only one which was well put together, actually had decent acting and was and is truly scary to this day. All the other slasher films had to try and follow suit to Michael Myers and unfortunately for them they all failed miserably. I admit that Freddy scared the s@i% out of me as a child, but he does nothing for me now and Jason was and is a poor imitation of the real thing. Michael will never die and he will always be the one you think of every year on Halloween.

I first saw this film when I was 15. Knocked my socks off and really scared me. From the beginning it had me hooked, the soundtrack pulled me in. Made my heart beat faster, then the pumkin in the opening credits, parting to reveal a skull inside. Halloween is not about what you see, its what you don't see. Sure it has blood and gore and killing, but the real magic of this movie keeping you hooked watching is what's inside Michael Myers? It starts out with the view of a child wearing a mask, watching his sister on Halloween night. What is never revealed is that, something has already happened to this child. From there the action, suspense and horror just never stops. The music cleverly guides viewers through each scene. In my opinion this is great movie. It plays with your mind, makes you think and use your imagination, to figure out what happened and why. It's a good old fashion "the boogey man never dies" kinda movie. It's like the thing you think you see, out of the corner of your eye. Yet when you really look, its not there…or was it? This movie will help you to think twice about ignoring that bump you hear downstairs, or when your motion detector light flashes on outside, yet no one is around…what tripped…the wind, a stray cat…a stanger passing by too close…or Michael? I enjoyed this movie, its a standard in my DVD collection of all time favorites and I'm now an adult in her early 40's. It'll make you lock your closet door, say your prayers, and check under the bed before you turn the lights out…if you dare do that, after watching this flick! Get Halloween and find your trick or treats.
