I am going to a pirate themed party next month and don’t have much money, due to being in college. I would like to make my own costume for the party using either things I can find in my closet or at a thrift store. I was wondering if anyone had ideas as to what I could use to make a good costume.

Having worked at a Renn Faire (where the costumes are mega $$$) I suggest looking for thrift store finds, however I also managed to put together some good pirate costume ideas with out-of-season summer ware. Remember pirates wore just about anything and you can too.

Long cotton gauzy skirts work great – you can dye them red or black for a more piratey look. Layer 2 of them and tie up the sides of the top one.

Frilly ruffled cotton summer nightgowns work good too and can be layered as the underskirt. Also those gauze swim cover-ups can work as a layering piece.

Ruffled poet’s blouse – should be an easy thrift store find. Mexican peasant blouses work too.

Striped socks or tights or plain wool or cotton knee-hi’s

Black boots or China shoes or plain ballet flats

Corset, Bodice or Wide Belt – It’s a nice sexy touch if you can find them. Target actually had a wide black corset-type belt some time ago. If you can’t find one a wide red knit Scarf tied tightly around the waist can work too.

Hat – not necessary, but a nice touch. A scarf works here too (think Jack Sparrow).

I found surprising Renn-Pirate items in the clearance section at local Targets, Kmarts and Ross/Marshalls type stores. Sometimes all it took was a little RIT dye to change the color of a $5 skirt. I even made a pirate costume for my boyfried using $10 black pull-on cotton ladies plus-size pants from Kmart.

Whatever costume you MAKE will look much better than any polyester "bought" pirate costume, unless of course you actually ARE going for the fake trampy polyester fishnet pirate wench look.

Google "Renaissance Pirate Garb" for some ideas.

I’m an assistant teacher for a kindergarten class on fridays, and since Halloween is on a friday this year, I was told that I could dress up in a costume for them. They are having a party. So any ideas?

I’m petite with a smaller frame, but I’ve been racking my brain for a unique costume that most one have on for this Halloween… But I can’t even think of a celebrity or movie character even with my current hair! Any movie ideas would be fun and appreciated, or even tv shows/animes/book characters. Would anyone even find it funny if I dressed as a Jonas brother and made fun of them? I don’t mind cross-dressing for a costume.

I’ve cross dressed for a costume. It’s a lot of fun. Go for the Jonas Brothers thing. People will call it a funny costume.

i am attending a costume party and i need ideas for a funny costume because there will be judging for the best costume. can anyone think of some?

If you have a date, dress up as a famous villain killer like freddy Krueger and then have your date dress up as the dumb blonde that can’t get away. Or vice versa if you are a chick! Thatd be a great easy costume

Our church is having a costume party, the theme is storybook characters.

One of my friends is going through an eviction so she’s hainvg a bit money trouble. What are some costume ideas for under maybe $25?

She’s a bit chubby, 5’1", blonde hair, blue eyes. No Dorothy, or Lil Bo Peep costumes, we’ve already got those costumes taken. I was thinking maybe Golilocks, but to buy the costume is like $50. Help?

I think goldilocks would work out great, or you could always try alice in wonderland or little red riding hood..

As for the money issue, you don’t have to go out and buy the costume.. if she were to just wear a cute dress and curl her hair people would get the idea. try using what you already have, or looking in thrift shops for good costume items.. not only will you save money, you’ll have a totally original costume! good luck!

For a costume party, I was assigned to dress up as Nicole Brown/ Simpson (O.J. Simpson’s murdered ex-wife) and someone else is going to dress as O.J.. Any ideas on how I should dress up?

When I was younger I read "The Doll People" and since then I have always wanted to be a doll for Halloween. Now that I’m older, and more mentally twisted, I would love to be a murderous porcelain doll. I need help with make-up and costume ideas, though!

okay, so i have a super morbid idea.

for make-up.

this will only work if you are super pale. you need the lightest foundation, and cover your face in it. don’t make it too gross and caked up, though. then take a rosy pink color, and make your cheeks very pronounced. use black mascara. redy pink lipstick/lipgloss. it creates the look of a doll.

then wear a cutesy, white lacey dress. but meanwhile you have a very innocent look, you put fake blood wherever you like, and optionally carry around a knife. fake one of course.

to help occasionally use a sweet doll voice, but say something very creepy.

I need some ideas for a costume, can someone give me ideas or websites that would be cute nd inexpensive? Thanks.

She can be a witch or a vampire girl i used to dress up as one when i was 11. =)
